Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited is a state owned power generating utility incorporated in November 2012 after the unbundling of the erstwhile BSEB.
BSPGCL has embarked on an ambitious plan to add substantial generating capacity in the next few years. It is targeting to achieve a total generating capacity of 2969 MW by 2017-18. In order to turn its vision into reality, BSPGCL has entered into Joint ventures with reputed and established companies in the power sector like – NTPC , NHPC etc.
After completing the Renovation and Modernization two units of (2×110 MW) KBUNL (erstwhile MTPS) is under operation. KBUNL has commissioned unit no 3 of 195 MW and declared its 18.03.2017 and unit no 4 of 195 MW has successfully completed its trial operation.
After completing the Renovation and Modernization , unit no 7 of 110 MW at BTPS is operational since Nov’ 2016. The construction work of the extension units (2×250 MW) at BTPS and2x195 MW at MTPS are in advanced stage of completion.
The construction of 3×660 MW at NPGCL is in advance stage. All these units are likely to be commissioned in September 2017, March 2018 and September 2018. Bihar has been allotted 1553 MW from these units. In stage-|| we are planning to install 3×800 MW.
After commissioning of these units the total power availability of BSPGCL will increase to 2969 MW.
BSPGCL is implementing three thermal power projects at Chausa in Buxar, Kajra in lakhisarai and pirpainti in Bhagalpur eachof 1320 MW capacity summing up to 3960 MW. BSPGCL has applied for the Coal block in order to meet coal requirements for its upcoming Thermal Power Projects at Kajra, Lakhisarai and Pirpainti, Bhagalpur. These units are expected to be commissioned by 2021-22.
BSPGCL is also taking strong and steady steps for “Green Energy” development and efforts are on to establish solar PV grid projects in PPP mode. Apart from developing conventional sources of power, BSPGCL is also focusing on development of renewable energy. Presently it is taking up development of 250 MW solar projects in PPP mode.
BSPGCL is developing a 3 MW solar-biomass hybrid power plant at Barun Aurangabad. To realize the vision of “Power For All” Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited is targeting a threefold increase in generating capacity in the coming year.
